Recruiting for a New Start-Up

When starting a new business, there are multiple challenges you are likely to face. Beginning with finances, and moving on to operations, office space, and finally a very crucial aspect – recruiting and staffing.

Largely depending on the nature and size of your business, you will require all kinds of staff right from administrative, sales, marketing, to accounting and even executive.

So how would one advice to go about recruiting for a start up?

The answer is to go all out and leave no stone unturned. You will need to fill multiple positions and across levels. Just spreading the word or placing an advertisement will not help. It is important that you tap all possible avenues for resumes and prospective employees.

·     Network- As much as you can and spread the word that you are hiring. Tell your prospective clients and vendors, suppliers, interior decorator and even the agency that is handling your media and marketing work. You never know who amongst them or their friends might be suitable for a job at your company.
·         Buy jobs online- For a small fee that you can very well treat as an investment, you can buy jobs online. Register with a reputed jobs website and post job openings. Also purchase cost effective packages and get a chance to browse through thousands of resumes of qualified candidates.
·        Advertise- Newspaper adverts although conventional are highly effective for recruiting.  Advertising in newspapers is an age old tried and tested and classic technique when it comes to hiring. The typical candidate looking for a job will definitely look through the classifieds section of a daily newspaper when hunting for a job and will thus most likely show up for your interview if the profile interests him.
·        Visit Universities- To hire fresh graduates and fresh talent that are likely to graduate soon. You will be able to come across multiple qualified people wanting a job soon after they graduate.  Since they are fresher’s, they will also expect a lower salary which is perfect for you, considering yours is a start up and costs will be a huge issue initially.

Essentially remember to tap all possible job search avenues as the more pool of resumes you have, the more likely you are to be able to find suitable staff.
